Lady Lex boasts historical past
      Despite repeated attacks during World War II, the USS Lexington never sank, prompting Japanese propagandist Tokyo Rose to dub the aircraft carrier "The Blue Ghost." The Blue Ghost lives on today. The retired aircraft carrier, illuminated at night with ghostly blue lighting, is permanently docked at 2914 N. Shoreline Blvd., on Corpus Christi Beach in Corpus Christi.

Pool is pride of community park
      A nyone who thinks the beach is Port Aransas' only water feature hasn't visited the swimming pool in Community Park. Of course, the Gulf of Mexico is open 24 hours a day. But the pool offers lounge chairs and benches, shade, showers, lockers, and poolside cubbyholes where you can keep your towel and shoes safe.

      A longside the south jetty is one of the crown jewels of Port Aransas: The University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute (MSI). Research is conducted at the MSI in a variety of fields including marine biology, ecology, geochemistry, and mariculture.

Texas Treasure offers gambling cruises in Gulf
      T he M/V Texas Treasure I sails twice daily six days a week from Port Aransas on the Harbor Island side of the ferry landing. As the Texas Treasure motors away from the Port Aransas, patrons may enjoy live entertainment in the showroom during the 9.2 mile journey to international waters.

Library is haven for summer readers
      T he William Ellis Memorial Library in Port Aransas is a haven for summer readers. Among other things, the library offers the Summer Reading Program, sponsored by the Texas State Library and the Port Aransas Boatmen Inc. It will be 10-11 a.m. on Wednesdays in June and July except Wednesday, July 4. The program is for pre-kindergarteners through third graders.

Waterfront park offers scenic venue for fun

Museum celebrates surfing history on Texas coast
      A wave of nostalgia will break this summer at the Texas Surf Museum in Corpus Christi, with Surfin' thru the '70s, a new exhibit celebrating surf culture in Texas and beyond during the grooviest decade of all. Opening June 1, the exhibit will be part of the Water Street Market Music & Art Fest.

Texas State Aquarium features new exhibit
      S hows with trained hawks, owls and falcons are the newest attractions at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. The shows take place at the Hawn Wild Flight Theater - a new 300-seat open-air amphitheater that opened at the Texas State Aquarium in April.

Track offers simulcast, live dog and horse racing
      T he thrill and excitement of pari-mutuel greyhound racing can be enjoyed just minutes from Port Aransas. The Corpus Christi Dog Track is a year-round facility featuring matinee and evening races. Live greyhound races, Wednesday through Sunday, are mixed with live simulcast greyhound and horse races broadcast via satellite starting at 11 a.m. daily.
