Tourist Bureau provides a wealth of information
      T he people in the know about Port Aransas are the staff members at the Chamber of Commerce- Tourist Bureau. The bureau is located at 403 W. Cotter, about a block east of the ferry landing in the sunny yellow building trimmed in white. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The office is closed on Sunday.

USS Lex a floating museum
      Impressive new firepower and air power recently went on exhibit at the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay in Corpus Christi. The Lexington is a preserved World War II aircraft carrier that gives visitors first-hand looks at life aboard a city at sea.

But the pool offers lounge chairs and benches, shade, showers, lockers, and poolside cubbyholes where you can keep your towel and shoes safe.

Texas State Aquarium swims with fun
      A new home for sea turtles is the newest exhibit at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. Tortuga Cay, which opened earlier this year, houses sea turtles that have been rehabilitated after being found sick or injured on Texas shores. Visitors now can see the turtles from above and below the water's surface - better views than at the animals' previous home.

Newport Dunes to offer Gulfside golf this summer
      T he Newport Dunes Golf Course at the Newport Beach and Golf residential development is expected to open in late summer or early fall. The 18-hole links style golf course is an Arnold Palmer Signature course, which means the world-famous pro golfer has been overseeing decisions involved in how the course was designed and built.

Texas women surfers are focus at museum
      W omen surfers of Texas, including some from Port Aransas, will be the focus of a new exhibit at the Texas Surf Museum in Corpus Christi. Titled Texas Women. Texas Waves, the exhibit opens on Friday, June 6 and will remain on display through October.

Art center offers classes, gift shop, monthly exhibits
