Tourist Bureau provides a wealth of information
      I f you need some help navigating all there is to do and see in Port Aransas, go to the people in the know -- the staff members at the Chamber of Commerce- Tourist Bureau. The main bureau office is at 403 W. Cotter, about a block east of the ferry landing in the sunny yellow building trimmed in white. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.

USS Lex a floating museum
      I mpressive new firepower and air power has gone on exhibit at the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay in Corpus Christi. The Lexington is a preserved World War II aircraft carrier that gives visitors first-hand looks at life aboard a city at sea.

Community Park offers pool and more
      A nyone who thinks the beach is Port Aransas' only water feature hasn't visited the swimming pool in Community Park. Of course, the Gulf of Mexico is open 24 hours a day. But the pool offers lounge chairs and benches, shade, showers, lockers, and poolside cubbyholes where you can keep your towel and shoes safe.

New headquarters at Magee Park now open
      N ot everything is new this season at I.B. Magee Jr. Beach Park, but returning visitors are sure to be impressed with the new multi-purpose office building. The park was named in memory of I.B. Magee Jr., a Port Aransas resident who was widely known for his community support.

Sea turtles newest residents of aquarium
     A new home for sea turtles is the newest exhibit at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. Tortuga Cay, which opened earlier this year, houses sea turtles that have been rehabilitated after being found sick or injured on Texas shores. Visitors now can see the turtles from above and below the water's surface - better views than at the animals' previous home.

Visitors welcome to open tennis matches
      Visitors are always I welcome to join an informal group of adult tennis players at the Port Aransas High School tennis courts on Station Street. The only requirements are a knowledge of the game, your racket and some tennis balls.

First Friday artist receptions, classes, more offered at Art Center for Islands
      V isitors and residents looking for original art in a variety of media as well as classes in many of those mediums will find it all at the Art Center for the Islands, 323 N. Alister St. The center, a nonprofit organization, is in its 12th year of serving Mustang and Padre islands.
