One of about 250 boats entered in the Harvest Moon Regatta, a race from Galveston to Port Aransas, arrives through the Port Aransas jetties. This year's regatta will be held Oct. 16 - 18. Two bottlenose dolphins leap through the air while riding the crest of a wave pushed by the bow of a crew boat passing through the Aransas Pass Channel. Natural surfers, dolphins commonly can be seen breaking surface ahead of ships passing through the area. Mardi Gras in October is a fundraiser for the Port Aransas Education Foundation, a private nonprofit group that raises funds to supplement budgets for teachers and classrooms in the Port Aransas Independent School District.
