See, sip, shop at annual style show
      Make sure you're riding the fashi on wave this spring by taking in the 2009 Port Aransas Garden Club Style Show and Party scheduled for Wednesday, March 4. Wine, fashions, shopping and fun will come together at the Civic Center, 710 W. Ave. A. Doors open at 1 p.m., and the show should start at 2:30 p.m.

Tourist Bureau provides a wealth of information
      The people in the know about Port Aransas are the staff members at the Chamber of Commerce-Tourist Bureau. The bureau is located at 403 W. Cotter, about a block east of the ferry landing in the sunny yellow building trimmed in white. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The office is closed on Sunday.

USS Lex a National Historic Landmark
      The 16th annual Stage Door Canteen show will be one of the big events this winter at the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay in Corpus Christi. The show will be held on Feb. 6 aboard the Lexington - a preserved World War II aircraft carrier that gives visitors first-hand looks at life aboard a city at sea.

Roberts Point Park offers family fun
      Fishermen, soccer players, guitar players, ship watchers and sailboat captains all have found common ground in Roberts Point Park, located adjacent to the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The city's bayside multi-purpose park facility was jointly developed by civic volunteers (Port Aransas Action Force) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Community Park offers something for everyone
      The Port Aransas Community Park, located at 700 Clark Parkway, has something to entertain anyone and everyone. The Z-shaped swimming pool is open all year round, and is heated during the winter months. There are many programs available for activities centered around the swimming pool.

Botanical gardens offer floral exhibits and more
      One of the Coastal Bend's visitor destinations is the 180- acre South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center that showcases nine colorful floral exhibits and gardens, including the acclaimed Orchid House and Plumeria Garden--plus the Bromeliad Conservatory and Butterfly House opening early 2009.

Golf course added to list of Port Aransas amenities
      The first 18-hole golf course in the history of Port Aransas opened in September. The Newport Dunes Golf Club is located between Beach Access Roads 1 and 1A along State Hwy. 361. It's an Arnold Palmer Signature course, which means the golf legend kept an eye on the project throughout design and construction.

Elderhostel is education, fun for older adults here in winter
      Taking part in a nature oriented Elderhostel program headquartered in Port Aransas this winter can mean everything from trawling aboard a research vessel in Lydia Ann Channel to viewing endangered whooping cranes at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Art center hosts artist receptions
      Visitors and residents looking for original art in a variety of mediums as well as classes in many of those mediums will find it all at the Art Center for the Islands, 323 N. Alister St. The center, a nonprofit organization, is in its 12th year of serving Mustang and Padre islands.

Birds, turtles, dolphins, more, oh my!
      Shows with trained hawks, owls and falcons are the newest attractions at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. The shows take place at the Hawn Wild Flight Theater - a new 300-seat open-air amphitheater that opened at the Texas State Aquarium in April.

Tennis is free, fun on the island
      If tennis is your game, you can enjoy it while visiting Port Aransas - for free. Visitors are always welcome to join an informal group of adult tennis players at the Port Aransas High School tennis courts on Station Street. A racket, some balls and the ability to keep the ball in play are the only requirements.
