JELM programs abound
W inter Texans can't complain about being bored or lonely
thanks to
the Joint Effort Leisure Ministry (JELM) Center.
In addition to JELM's usual five-day a week schedule of fitness classes, games, lectures, workshops and live music, the activity center also offers a variety of trips. Trips include many one, two and three-day outings throughout Texas, including history-oriented tours to the Hill Country and East Texas. Pre-registration for these and other special events are available through the Web site, www.jelmcenter.com,. Reservations may be made in person at the JELM Center.
JELM posts weekly activity updates in the South Jetty and on the city's local cable channel. The JELM Center is located behind the Community Presbyterian Church office at 113 S. Alister. All activities are open to the public.
JELM is operated by volunteers from Community Presbyterian Church (the umbrella under which the center operates), and volunteer Winter Texans. The center offers a variety of activities, trips, entertainment, as well as health and fitness programs from mid-October through March.
Kate Maddock is in charge of creative programs and program marketing for the center.
