Art Fest and the Songwriters' Showcase will again join forceswith the historic Tarpon Inn to celebrate art and music to benefit the Art Center for the Islands, a non-profit organzation.
The third annual Art Fest will start with the ArtFest Fiesta, a barbecue to be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, in the courtyard of the Tarpon Inn, 200 E. Cotter Ave.
Then, on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, artists will gather in the Tarpon Inn courtyard to offer a variety of media for sale. Artwork will range from original oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings to prismacolors, mixed media and prints made from original work, handforged silver jewelry, clay sculpture, pottery, Raku and shard art, three-dimensional metal sculpture, hand-dyed scarves, woven scarves and rugs, glass jewelry, gem stones, pearl designs, mosaics and photography.
Art Fest will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Those extending their weekend may want to take in the 25th annual Songwriters Showcase, benefiting the art center, on Monday, May 19.
The showcase traditionally features the father-son duo of Preecher and Jake Williams, alternative songster Jared Clark and Larry Joe Taylor (who has recorded five records, including "Port A to Port B" and his latest release, "Summer Days").
The lineup usually includes Rueben Limas, Fred Jarmon, Shane Lane, Triggerfish, Dave Ward and Shirley Fischer, Guy Leroux, Freddie McClain, Kit Gutherz and Ian Henkel.
Music lovers are invited to bring something to sit on and a cooler with drinks and snacks to enjoy as they listen to the music under the stars.
