Stay in touch at Computer Center

The Computer Center offers free Internet and e-mail access. The Computer Center offers free Internet and e-mail access. The Port Aransas Computer Center has free public access to 25 computers, all of which are connected to the Internet. And there’s more.

The non-profit organization at 430 N. Alister St. also offers Wi Fi. The wireless service provides Internet access for users inside the center and for folks using their laptop computers in their cars in the center’s parking lot.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but the hours are subject to change according to the availability of volunteers to work at the center.

Officials at the center would like to stay open longer hours, but they have to get more volunteers to be able to do that, according to Ken Jones, volunteer coordinator at the center. Each volunteer needs work no more than one two-hour shift each week, he said.

To inquire about volunteering, call the center at 749-4011.

Office 2003 Professional is installed on all machines, and all of the computers are connected to a Dell laser printer.

The center allows visitors the ability to send e-mails, surf the net, play games, shop online, work with photos, print airline boarding passes, make reservations, write resumes, take online classes, get food handler’s certifications, update driver’s license addresses, scan photos, print mailing labels and more.

Individual computer instruction is available.

The computer center is fi- nanced by user donations. The staff’s volunteers do all of the technical heavy lifting for visitors.

Visitors may bring in their printer ink cartridges, laser cartridges and old cell phones for use in the center’s recycling program.
