SandFest is state’s official sculpting event
Creations by master sculptors at SandFest are works of art.
‘Incredible” is just about the only word that begins to describe the 14th annual Texas SandFest.
The official sand sculpting contest for the State of Texas will be held on the beach in Port Aransas Friday through Sunday, April 9 -11.
More than 100,000 visitors are expected during the event.
The crown jewel of the threeday festival is the work of the master sculptors who come from throughout the country, Ukraine and Canada. These artists use sand to create intricate works of art. Thousands flock to the beach to see their artistry and try their own hands at sand sculpting, for which free lessons are offered throughout the event.
In addition to the master sculptors’ competition, contests are fielded for pro-ams, amateurs and youths. For those who don’t want to get down and sandy, there is a photography contest in which photographers submit photos they take during the festival for judging and awards after the event.
Thousands flock to Sand- Fest every year.
Vendors of merchandise, food and beverages (other than alcohol) fuel festival-goers.
Admission to the festival is free, although donations are accepted to help offset the cost of putting it on.
For early birds who want to get a head start on SandFest, free sand sculpting lessons will be offered prior to the event.
Rest assured, SandFest offers something for everyone: Live music, a kids’ activity tent, as well as a pet parade and contest. There’s even a special “Pet Oasis” tent where pets can get fresh water and snack – be keep in mind that pets must be on leashes and their owners must pick up any “deposits” left behind.
Beneficiaries of this year’s SandFest will be the Port Aransas Community Theater, Art Center for the Islands and the Port Aransas Food Pantry.
So, come enjoy SandFest. You’ll be glad you did!
