Computer center is free

Visitors and residents are welcome to access the free resources available at the Port Aransas Computer Center. Visitors and residents are welcome to access the free resources available at the Port Aransas Computer Center. The Port Aransas Computer Center at 430 N. Alister St. offers free public access to 26 computers. All are connected to the Internet and a black and white laser printer. Office 2003 Professional is installed on all machines. Two scanners are available. Photo card readers are installed on four computers.

Visitors to the Computer Center can send email, surf the Net, play games, shop online, work with photos, make reservations, write resumes, scan documents or photos, print mailing labels and much more.

Individual computer instruction is available, and classes are scheduled when a need arises.

The non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization provides wireless service (Wi Fi) inside the building and outside in the parking lot.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. A shortage of volunteers has forced closing on Saturdays, and the center might close other days if enough volunteers can’t be found.

Regular volunteers work one twohour shift each week, and substitute volunteers take the two-hour shift when a regular volunteer cannot come in. If you would like to volunteer at the Computer Center, stop in and fill out a short questionnaire.

The Computer Center is financed by donations, which help upgrade equipment and provide supplies and licenses for software. There is no paid staff.

The center’s recycling program accepts printer ink cartridges, laser cartridges and old cell phones.
