Be cart smart
Golf carts are legal to drive on most Port Aransas roadways. But drivers should familiarize themselves with laws that regulate carts.
Golf carts must have up-todate registrations with the City of Port Aransas. City hall issues license plates for a $50 fee. If you are renting, rental businesses probably have already taken care of that for you.
The city doesn’t have the legal authority to issue registrations for ATVs or utility vehicles such as Polarises or Mules.
Golf carts may legally travel on any street in Port Aransas except for State Hwy. 361, which lies south of Avenue G, and any street where the speed limit is more than 35 mph.
Laws on drinking and driving apply to golf cart use.
Golf carts are illegal on public sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, playgrounds, public parks and school grounds. Carts are allowed on the beach roadway.
Slow-moving golf carts should pull to one side of the road, if it can be done safely, if they’re holding up traffic, according to police.
