JELM offers much

Need to get out, get busy and make some friends? There’s always something happening at the JELM (Joint Effort Leisure Ministry) Center.

The JELM offers five days of fun each week including, but not limited to, bridge, arts and crafts, artist’s workshops, music and line dancing, brown bag lunches, wine and cheese tastings, fitness classes, games, lectures, hands-on workshops, meals and socials.

The program, which kicked off in October and will continue through mid-March, is open to residents as well as Winter Texans. Many of the volunteer instructors are Port Aransas residents.

Participants are asked to complete registration forms and liability releases prior to engaging in JELM activities. The registration fee is $3 per person or $5 per couple per year.

The program is sponsored by Community Presbyterian Church and partnered by City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department to provide numerous programs throughout the season.

Live music is a feature of many of the JELM activities. Live music is a feature of many of the JELM activities. JELM posts weekly activity updates in the South Jetty and on the city’s local cable channel.

JELM is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 113 S. Alister St. in the Church complex, with the front door facing the Jerry McDonald Field.
