Free concerts held along ship channel

Spend a Friday evening by the ship channel and enjoy live music while watching the sun go down and the ships pass by.

The City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a free, monthly, Sunset Sounds concert series the second Friday of each month, April through October.

The concerts, with musical genres that will appeal to almost all musical tastes, begin at 7 p.m. at the Patsy Jones Amphitheater in Roberts Point Park.

Folks may bring lawn chairs or blankets and a cooler full of their favorite beverages and snacks.

The park has plenty of room for dancing, and the kids can play on the nearby playground.

Friendly, leashed dogs always are welcome to the event.

The lineup of entertainers for the summer months includes Aloha Dave and the Tourists on June 9, the Jesse Stratton Band on July 14 and the Cody Wayne Band on Aug. 11.

Watch weekly issues of the South Jetty newspaper for information about the upcoming events.
