A major expansion at the Texas State Aquarium has more than doubled the size of the Corpus Christi facility.

Caribbean Journey, a $58 million addition that opened in May, added more than 71,000 square feet of exhibit space.

The wing takes guests “on an unforgettable adventure above and below the waters of the Yucatan Peninsula,” the aquarium’s website said.

“Guests will begin their expedition through the Caribbean in the jungle, gradually venturing through wetlands, Mayan Ruins, coastal lagoons, coral reefs and the open sea,” the website said.

Located at 2710 N. Shoreline Drive in Corpus Christi, the aquarium is easily accessible by U.S. Hwy. 181.

Among the aquarium’s most popular animals are Liko, Schooner, Kai and Shadow – bottlenose dolphins.
