Whoopers celebrated at festival

The annual celebration of the endangered whooping crane is set Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 22 through 25.

The 22nd Whooping Crane Festival is hosted by the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau.

The event is headquartered at the Civic Center, 710 W.Ave.A.

Proceeds from the annual festival benefit the conservation of the endangered whooping cranes.

Onsite registration will run daily throughout the festival.The Civic Center will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and open at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the Civic Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees may register for field trips to birding sites, boat trips for whooping crane viewing, boating and nature trips, dolphin encounters, tours of the Amos Rehabilitation Keep at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute, photography workshops, exhibits and other events offered during the festival.
