Take a day trip to Corpus Christi to visit the blooming gardens, nature trails, floral exhibits, birding workshops, kids’ camps, educational events and more at the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.
Located at 8545 S. Staples St. in Corpus Christi, the 182-acre gardens and nature preserve is a stop on the Great Texas Birding Trail and a Texas Watchable Wildlife Program site all in one.
Half-day kids’ summer camps are scheduled in June and July. The camps for kids from 6 to 14 include photography, bird and reptile care, natural habitats and plant care. For more information and to register for the camps go to www.stxbot.org.
On Father’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20, dads get in free.
The botanical gardens will celebrate America’s birthday with half-price admission on Sunday, July 4. July also will include Plumeria Passions, a special class on acquiring, raising and wintering the exotic tropical plants, as well as an annual sale.

The botanical gardens operating hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Admission is $9 for ages 13 to 59; $7 for seniors over 60, active military and college students and $5 for children ages 3-12. Children under 3 are admitted free. The entry fee is payable by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa.
