Experience history aboard the USS Lexington museum


 

 

The USS Lexington Museum this winter will host a Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony and the retired aircraft carrier’s 27th annual Stage Door Canteen.

The remembrance ceremony will be held Dec. 7, the 78th anniversary of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.Admission will be free.

The Stage Door Canteen is a fundraiser set for the evening of Friday, Feb. 14 – Valentine’s Day.

Attendees are encouraged to wear dancing shoes and dress in business casual, 1940s-era fashions or a World War II military uniform during the evening that’s always full of nostalgia. More information is available at www.usslexington.com.

The USS Lexington, also known simply as the Lex, is a retired aircraft carrier docked at 2914 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Corpus Christi,

The Lex was the oldest working carrier ship in the United States Navy when it was decommissioned in 1991. The carrier arrived at Corpus Christi beach in 1992.

The vessel has a 910-foot flight deck, the size of about three football fields, and held a crew of about 3,000 service members during World War II.

The Lex has 20 restored vintage Navy aircrafts on the flight deck. Also accessible are many other parts of the ship, including a theater, post office, barbershop, hospital and captain’s quarters.

Smart phone tours in English and Spanish are available on tour routes.

The Lex will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Labor Day to Memorial Day.

General admission is $16.95 for adults, $14.95 for seniors age 60 and over or military with ID and $11.95 for children 4-12. Children 3 and under get in free, as do members. Parking is available for $4.
